The Paris Instrumenta l Quintet was founded in 1922, and became the Pierre Jamet Quintet in 1945. The Quintet consisted of the harp, flute and three string instruments. Ja met and LeRoy, both world reknown solo artists with their instruments, were the center of the Quintet at the time of this photo. The Paris Quintet, w ho performed internationally, was renown for the passion and brilliance of their performances. Pierre Jamet, premier French solo harpist and teacher, debuted work by Debussy and, as part of the Quintet, the work of Tailleferre, Francaix. and other great composers of the twentieth century. Jamet was a professor at the Paris National Conservatory. At the time of this photo, R ene Bas was the violinist, Pierre Grout played the viola and Roger Boulme p layed violoncello. Boulme with the group until his death during World War Two. Bas remained with the group until it dissolved in 1958.) Rene LeRoy, world-class flutist, left the group for a solo career.LeRoy taught at the Darius Milhaud Conservatory. His work is noted for his striking interpreta tions and quick vibrato.
