The Sunday Sessions: How to draft a killer query letter
with Kate Dyer-Seeley
Sunday, February 14th at 3pm

Are you a writer? Do you need motivation? Do you feel stuck in a rut? In need of a nudge, inspiration, or information?

Why not join other writers to share tips about writing craft, publishing, and promotion?

At this meeting of Vintage Books' new writing series, The Sunday Sessions, local mystery author Kate Dyer-Seeley (Scene of the Crime, A Batter of Life & Death, & more) will walk you through the process of writing a killer query letter and the dos and don’ts of pitching the agent of your dreams. Come with questions, a passion for writing, and a pen & paper. This event is free and open to the public.

We intend to host the Sunday Sessions on the second Sunday of every month, and encourage you to share this information with your writer friends. Any questions about attending can be directed to vbwritersgroupinfo@gmail.com.

We are also seeking authors interested in presenting a mini-workshop (about half an hour + Q&A) on writing as craft, publishing, marketing, promotion, social media for authors, finding an agent, & other aspects of the writing journey. Please contact Candace or Debbie at vbwritersgroup@gmail.com for more information.

You are cordially invited to the official book launch party for
The Jigsaw Man

by Leigh Goodison

Saturday, January 16th, 2016
1:00-4:00pm

What if you woke up one day looking like a completely different person? Could you live with the consequences? Or would the trauma turn you into a psychopathic killer?

After Dr. Thea Donovan performs reconstructive facial surgery on severely injured fireman Malcolm Dean, she is ecstatic with the results. The Reflesh procedure she pioneered with software guru Erik Sorenson far exceeds her expectations. There’s just one problem: the patient doesn’t agree. In fact, the surgery altered his appearance to such an extent that it seems to have changed his personality from a caring, bereaved father and husband, to a man with psychopathic tendencies. Then when a series of unsolved murders point toward Malcolm Dean, Thea must confront the possibility that she has created a killer. And in setting out to prove her patient innocent, Thea inadvertently solves a thirty-year-old murder mystery.

Blindness by Jose Saramago

A city is hit by an epidemic of "white blindness" which spares no one. Authorities confine the blind to an empty mental hospital, but there the criminal element holds everyone captive, stealing food rations and raping women. There is one eyewitness to this nightmare who guides seven strangers-among them a boy with no mother, a girl with dark glasses, a dog of tears-through the barren streets, and the procession becomes as uncanny as the surroundings are harrowing. A magnificent parable of loss and disorientation and a vivid evocation of the horrors of the twentieth century, Blindness has swept the reading public with its powerful portrayal of man's worst appetites and weaknesses-and man's ultimately exhilarating spirit. The stunningly powerful novel of man's will to survive against all odds, by the winner of the 1998 Nobel Prize for Literature.
