Some Upcoming Events to Put On Your Calendar!

Upcoming Events by Vintage Books

Sheridan: Breaking Ground Author Event

Join us June 24th at 1pm as Vancouver author James Rogers will do a reading, Q&A and signing of his book Sheridan: Breaking Ground.

Sheridan: Breaking Ground, is James’s first book in a trilogy about the building of the Federal Correctional Institution in Sheridan, Oregon. James draws on his visits to his grandmother who lived in Sheridan, as well as his law enforcement career to weave a web of intrigue and danger that threatens to overwhelm the town. The action begins when an elderly woman is found dead, the apparent victim of a brutal axe murder. Rookie police officer Terrence Washburn is sent to investigate and soon finds the small town harbors dark secrets that put his life in danger. Hank, a decorated war veteran who was dishonorably discharged, makes it his mission to uncover the truth of his mother's death. Terrence soon finds himself and the woman he loves on a collision course with Hank and his heavily armed militia. The final act leaves the reader wondering whether Terrence will solve the murder or be the next victim?

James served as a police officer for over twenty-five years until retiring as a lieutenant. During his service at the Vancouver Police Department, he performed the duties of a patrol officer, Community Education Officer, Training Officer, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Internal Affairs Lieutenant, Precinct Lieutenant, and Acting Commander. Following his retirement, James continues to work with forensic patients as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Washington.

His first published work was Regaining Control, a treatment manual he authored with Dr. David Morgan.

James and his wife enjoy traveling where he often finds inspiration for his stories.

Vintage Books invites writers to join us Sunday, June 11th at 3pm as young adult author Sheryl Scarborough does a writers workshop on The Art of the Details: Facts vs. Flavor.

SHERYL SCARBOROUGH is an award-winning writer for children’s television. She holds an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, lives in Washington state, and has always had an obsession with forensics. When she was twelve, her home was the target of a Peeping Tom. Sheryl diligently photographed his footprints and collected the candy wrappers he left behind. Unfortunately, he was never caught. But the desire to use evidence to solve a great mystery was sparked inside Scarborough all the same. To Catch a Killer is her debut.

A relatable cast and well thought-out plot make this mystery a Sherlockian puzzle sure to impress the most hardened crime-procedural fanatic. Don your deer-stalker caps, gumshoes, you’re in for a twisty ride.” —Mary Elizabeth Summer, author of Trust Me, I’m Lying
