One More Featured Book…
From March 15 to September 13, 1970, sponsored by the Japan Bonsai Society, the Japan Suiseki Society, and the Japan Satsuki Club, a large-scale bonsai and suiseki show was held in conjunction with the Osaka World Exposition. Seventy-seven countries participated and fifty million visitors attended.
The Japanese garden area alone covered sixty-four acres. Saburo Kato, a world-renowned bonsai master, managed the bonsai exhibitions, continually changing them so that during the run approximately two thousand of the most famous and honored trees in Japan were displayed.
The bonsai were impressively staged on benches outdoors. Nearly every bonsai there was in an old Chinese pot 200 to 300 years old. These pots were collectors' items and many were as well known as the trees they supported.
This book is the photographic record of that show.
Very few copies now remain available to the public - we have only found two other copies.
Color and black/white photos fill the pages. The text, while minimal, is entirely in Japanese. The boards are in green cloth with bright gilt Japanese lettering.
