VINTAGE BOOKS invites readers to

become BOOK ANGELS this Holiday

season.

Ready to be a positive influence in our community? Vintage Books will share our Book Angel credit (new and/or used) and books, as we can, to help readers enjoy sharing with others this Holiday season.

To participate:
Please write a few sentences telling us what you would do if you were given the chance to

be a Book Angel.  Perhaps you know of a program (club, church, school, community effort)

that could use books right now?

We'll accept your HANDWRITTEN ideas Nov 15- Dec 5th.  Please write down your ideas and contact info (name, phone number or email.)  This project is open to readers 6 and up.

Book Angels credit must be used all in one visit.  One of our knowledgeable staff will gladly help with your shopping. Credit must be used by Dec. 31, 2016.

The credit is for sharing with others (making you an official Book Angel) and not for your personal use.

This program is free and all book credit is provided by Vintage Books and the customers that have donated to the cause.

The Sunday Sessions

With Christine Fletcher December 11th at 3pm

Join us for The Sunday Sessions on December 11th at 3pm for a mini workshop with Christine Fletcher on I Couldn't Put It Down! Using Conflict to Hook Your Readers.

"Conflict on every page” is common advice for fiction writers. Does this mean your characters must argue and fight constantly? Not at all. In this workshop, we’ll explore the many flavors of conflict, from the knife-edge tension of silence to the excitement of a full-on battle scene. We’ll discuss how conflict advances plot, reveals character, and raises the stakes, and how its skillful use will keep your readers turning pages well into the wee hours.

Come with questions, a passion for writing, & something to take notes with. These workshops are free & open to the public.

Any questions about attending can be directed to vbwritersgroup@gmail.com

Past Sessions:

– January 2016 Carolyn J. Rose on The Importance of Opinion, Attitude, and Style

Who Picked this Book? Book Club will discuss The Book Thief Dec. 18th at 3pm:

Paulo Coelho's masterpiece tells the mystical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure. His quest will lead him to riches far different and far more satisfying than he ever imagined. Santiago's journey teaches us about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, of recognizing opportunity and learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, most importantly, to follow our dreams.

Future selections:

December 18th at 3pm

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

January 15th at 3pm

Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

February 19th at 3pm

So You've Been Publicly Shamed by Jon Ronson

March 19th at 3pm

Amy Falls Down by Jincy Willet

Young at Heart Book Club will discuss Dash and Lily's Book of Dares Dec. 4th at 3pm:
“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

So begins the latest whirlwind romance from the bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on a favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. But is Dash that right guy? Or are Dash and Lily only destined to trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations across New York? Could their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions? Or will they be a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have written a love story that will have readers perusing bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

January (date to be decided at Dec. meeting): A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray
